The Fire District is overseen by a three-member Board of Fire Commissioners, elected at-large for staggered six-year terms. The current board includes:

Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue receives no on-going federal, state or county funding. The majority of the revenue comes from local property taxes in the form of a Fire Levy. In 2024, these taxes provided 82% of the Fire District’s funding. The majority of other funding comes from ambulance transport billing (13%). Together these account for 95% of all funding the fire district receives and the remaining 5% is from grants, timber sale taxes, and other minor sources.

The fire district serves an estimated population of 9,800 people in an 85 square mile area. This includes the communities of Deer Park, Mt. Pleasant, Gales Addition, Mt. Angeles, Black Diamond, Dry Creek, Elwha, and Lake Sutherland.

In 2023, Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue responded to 1,994 emergency calls. This is a 103% increase in the last 12 years.

The Fire District experiences overlapping incidents 26.7% of the time. This means an incident is already in progress when another emergency call is received.

The fire district employs 12 career members. This includes 9 shift responder (Captains, firefighter-paramedics, and firefighter-EMTs). The remaining staff is a fire chief, administrative supervisor, and volunteer training coordinator.

We also have 32 volunteer firefighters and EMTs who respond from home or work. They are especially crucial during larger or overlapping incidents.

The district provides its services with a combination of paid and volunteer personnel.

The fire district is able to staff Fire Station 21 in Gales Addition 24-hours a day with 2 personnel (1- firefighter/paramedic and 1- firefighter/EMT). Station 22 in Dry Creek is staffed Monday-Thursday 7 AM – 6 PM with an additional 2-3 firefighter/paramedic/EMTs.

Volunteer responders provide additional personnel as needed based on incident type and overlap. Station 23 (Black Diamond) and Station 25 (Deer Park) rely exclusively on volunteer staffing.

The district has at least one paramedic on-duty every day, 24/7.

Although personnel are assigned to Station 21 and sometimes Station 22, they may be away from the facility at any time while responding to emergencies, transporting patients, training, etc.
