Deputy Chief Denton started as a volunteer firefighter/EMT with the City of Port Angeles in 1997.  In 1999 he was hired full time as a firefighter/EMT with the Port Angeles Fire Department.  In 2009 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant/EMT.  While at the Port Angeles Fire Department he was very active in training and led several entry level firefighter academies for both the Port Angeles Fire Department and Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue.

In 2018, after over 20 years in the fire service, Deputy Chief Denton left the Port Angeles Fire Department and became the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for Olympic Medical Center.  In that role, he provided training and oversight for large disaster planning and preparedness.  The job allowed him to be involved in complex projects and manage several different programs, along with helping lead the initial response to COVID-19.

In 2020 he had the opportunity to rejoin the fire service and accepted a position with East Olympia Fire District #6 in Thurston County as their Battalion Chief of Training.  Over the next couple of years, his role changed as East Olympia Fire District #6 had a functional consolidation with the SE Thurston Fire Authority and he was promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief of Operations for the combined agencies.  He joined Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue in January, 2025.
